> SURVIVING DEPENDANTS' PENSION

When you pass away …

What will happen to your pension when you pass away? What are the arrangements for your surviving dependants? We explain below.

At Bpf Koopvaardij, we not only have an occupational retirement pension, but also a pension for surviving dependants, i.e. a partner’s pension and an orphan’s pension. We think it's important that your loved ones are left well cared-for when you pass away. They can receive a pension from us each month, whether or not you’ve already retired when that happens. Partner’s pension and orphan's pension

Your partner may be entitled to a partner’s pension from the first day of the month in which you pass away. Your partner is the person to whom you are married, or with whom you have a registered partnership or a cohabitation contract before you retire. With the latter arrangements, you must have been living together for at least six months and you must both be registered at the same address.

The partner's pension stops when your partner passes away. The same applies to ex-partners. Children may be eligible for an orphan's pension from the first day of the month in which you pass away. The orphan’s pension stops when the child reaches the age of 18, unless he or she is studying or taking vocational training, in which case the benefit will stop at the age of 27. Special partner’s pension

If you have one or more ex-partners, they can also be entitled to a (special) partner’s pension when you pass away. The amount of the pension

You will find the amount of the partner's and orphan's pension in My Koopvaardij or in your Uniform Pension Overview (UPO). Whether your partner and children will receive a pension, and how much it will be, depends on your situation at the time when you pass away. If both you and your partner pass away, we double the orphan's pension for your children. What to do

If you want to make sure your loved ones are left well cared-for when you pass away, then make sure we know about them. The municipality where you live automatically notifies us of the birth of your child(ren). If you are married or in a registered partnership, then the municipality will automatically notify us. But if you simply live with someone, the municipality will not automatically notify us, so you need to give us your partner’s details. That will enable us to reach your partner if you should pass away. ←
