Radu-Marin Tamas (60) has worked for Wagenborg for almost twenty years. That he, as a Romanian, started working for a Dutch company was an informed choice.
Radu-Marin started his seafaring career in the Romanian armed forces, first as a naval officer, then as a commander. But it was a troubled time, because of the Romanian revolution. There was much poverty and corruption. Radu-Marin decided to leave the armed forces. “I read a lot about the Netherlands and watched a lot of documentaries about the Netherlands. Then it really became my dream to work for a Dutch company.” Captain at Wagenborg In 2001, Radu-Marin decided to apply for a job with a Dutch shipping company. He was hired, but after a year there was no more work for him. Fortunately, he was able to start working at Wagenborg in 2002. Having started as second officer, he quickly rose to the position of captain. He is very content with his work. “The company is stable and robust. You get paid on time, the ships are modern and well maintained. Dutch shipping companies have a very good reputation among seafarers, as do Norwegian and German ones. I am still happy with the choice I made at the time.”
